Everything is a lesson.

Hello friends!

I haven't posted anything in a while and here's why: I have currently taken up watercoloring and hand lettering. There are quite a few artists I admire and a few of them have done watercolors. I remember as a kid I loved the hell out of my watercolor paint sets. I don't think I was very good at it but I remember how much I loved it. It really helped to pass the time and to let that creative energy flow right out of me. It's a great escape, another form of art therapy for me.

And with hand lettering, well, I feel like watercolors and hand lettering goes hand in hand. I have always wanted to try it. I think it looks beautiful with flowers, patterns, and vibrant colors. So, I thought I should go ahead and try it. And I did. I've been practicing it lately and some things I've developed have been good and someone not so good. I'm just practicing, so I'm not expecting a masterpiece to come right out on the first try. Before I didn't have the right pens to do it. I recently purchased a Tombow brush pen and it's so beautiful. However, since I'm a beginner I'm still rusty at it. I do feel like I have gotten better at using my Micron's for hand lettering. I always start with pencil and just outline everything. It's been interesting so far. I plan on doing some more hand lettering practicing today when I'm finished with my lunch.

On today's post I have pictures of the watercoloring and hand lettering I've been working on. On one of the pieces you'll see a spelling error. I wanted to write "My Bark Is Worse Than My Bite." Notice how I have "worse" italicized? Yeah, that's because despite my doing it in pencil first and outlining in pen second, I still managed to use the wrong variation of "worse" and instead used "worst." Wow. It looked so good, too (at least for my standards) but I'm a little embarrassed to post it anywhere (besides here) because of that error. I'm human. I messed up. But it does look pretty nice. I may recreating it when I practice on my hand lettering later. Maybe a more minimal look than the treatment I gave it previously. Not featured amongst the hand lettering pictures is a project I did for my mom. She was first my commission and I created a little sign for her that says "All I need today is a little bit of Coffee and a whole lot of Jesus." I'll be sure to get pictures of that up soon. I may be adding additional touches to that, but I'm proud of how it looks!

You'll also see in this album some pictures of flowers and plants. Those were taken at my brother's new place. His roommate has a beautiful garden set up and my brother has his succulents outside. It was the perfect opportunity to take some pictures. Of course, you'll see some other pictures as well. Like a street sign decorated by stickers (the sign is so high up, I wonder how the people managed to get those stickers on). Some photos taken from my backyard, mostly of my rose bush and me taking a sneaky shot of my neighbor's backyard.

So, everyone, the pictures I'm most shy about are the self portraits of me. I was playing with the lighting of the room and settings on my camera, as well as the editing features in Lightroom. Maybe a little glimpse of what possible photos I can take for my friends or friends of their friends. (Wink Wink) Oh! And another photo is a preview of a postcard size print I made for my church for the men's fall retreat! They came out looking so beautiful. I couldn't be happier with the end product. I will be posting a photo of the poster and postcards in the portfolio part of my website. So stay tuned for that!

Don't forget, friends, that I am still offering a discount for photoshoots! $100 for a 45 minute session with yourself truly, including four hand-picked retouched photos carefully selected by you!
