A Live Event: Grand Circus Park

A few weeks ago I had the privilege to photograph the live event, "Destination Broadway" produced by The Detroit Actor's Theater Company at Grand Circus Park in downtown Detroit.

I haven't done a big event in a while. The last "big" event I've done is photograph a wedding. That was intense. I have done live events before like vow renewals, baptisms, and mini-stage performances, but never a live theater company event in a Detroit park. This was new to me.

I enjoyed it. I was commissioned to photograph for two hours, which was the exact duration of the event and it was amazing. I felt really comfortable moving around and seeing how everyone reacted to each performance. All the actor's were taking some of the best performances from famous broadway musicals like Wicked, Newsies, West Side Story, and more. I haven't seen a musical in a while, at least live, and I was very impressed, as well as moved by how emotional the singers were in their performances. I think there was one performance by DATC actress Shannon Grant who really caught my eye. I wish I knew the name of the performance she did, but I was so wrapped up in how she delivered it and capturing that I just never caught it. It was amazing. It was so new to me to shoot something like that. I hope I have the chance to do it again.
